Dr. Victoria Brown

Assistant Provost for eLearning

Dr. Victoria Brown is the Assistant Provost for eLearning. She is responsible for the administration of the University’s new Center for eLearning. In this capacity, Dr. Brown collaborates with FAU’s 10 colleges, as well as its schools, departments, and faculty to facilitate new eLearning courses and programs, and enhance existing courses. She also oversees instructional technology, including training, supporting, and assisting faculty and staff who utilize eLearning, as well as managing the day-to-day operations of the new center. Dr. Brown also works directly with the Provost to implement FAU’s academic and technological strategic vision.

Dr. Brown comes from the College of Education the Department of Teaching and Learning here at FAU. She taught instructional technology for educators and business trainers for ten years. She has previously managed instructional design teams and possesses more than a decade of experience teaching through online delivery systems. Prior to coming to FAU in 2005, Dr. Brown held the position of Assistant Professor at Barry University. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Central Missouri State University and her doctorate from the University of West Florida.

Willie H. Freeman III

Willie Freeman is the Director of eLearning. He has 20 years of instructional technology experience in Higher Education. He supervises a team of instructional designers, oversees faculty development and support efforts, and works directly with the Assistant Provost to implement FAU’s eLearning initiatives.

Willie believes faculty and student support are essential to FAU’s mission of excellence and innovation in teaching. Although based on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, he frequents the Davie and Jupiter campuses to consult with faculty and staff. He conducts round tables with distance learning faculty on the Jupiter, Davie, Harbor Branch and Boca Raton campuses enabling them to ask questions, express needs, and discuss with one another the challenges and experiences related to distance learning.

Dr. Julie Golden-Botti

Associate Director of eLearning and Professional Development

Dr. Julie Golden serves as Associate Director of eLearning and Professional Development at the FAU Center for eLearning. Julie is responsible for leading the instructional design team in their partnerships with faculty subject matter experts for the development of online courses. Julie’s passion is the establishment and facilitation of the FAU eLearning Community of Practice which provides a foundation for ongoing faculty training and professional development.

Julie holds a Doctorate of Education, Organizational Leadership from Northeastern University in Boston, MA; a Master of Arts in Career and Technical Education from the University of Central Florida, a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Central Florida, and a Masters Certification in online educational media from the University of Central Florida.

Prior to her career in education, Julie worked in the radio and television broadcasting industry and brings her knowledge and experience with digital media to her work in creating online learning materials and supporting eLearning faculty at FAU.

Jill Rosen

Jill Rosen joined the eLearning team in January, 2013 as the Budget Manager. She holds a Master Degree in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Delaware.

Jill coordinates all of the financial transactions for the Center for eLearning including close collaboration with each College to assure smooth and timely transfers of faculty funding.

Corine Nelson joined the Center for eLearning in July, 2011 as Executive Assistant to Dr. V. Brown, Assistant Provost for eLearning. Corine supports, assists, and helps implement all logistical needs of the Center for eLearning.

Lynelle Forrest has been designing and building Web sites since 1995 and joined the eLearning department as a Web Designer in September 2014. Lynelle graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor’s of Art.

Dr. Mario Toussaint

Research Specialist

Dr. Mario Toussaint received his bachelor’s in computer science, his master’s in mathematics teaching (MST), and his Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Florida Atlantic University. He is currently a research specialist in the Center for eLearning at Florida Atlantic University. He has served as an adjunct professor of mathematics at both Broward College and Miami Dade College teaching developmental and college level undergraduate mathematics courses for over fourteen years. His main research interests include Academic Service Learning, Distance Learning, and using technology to improve students’ performance, especially in mathematics.

Kathy McPherson

Kathleen (Kathy) McPherson joined the Center for eLearning in January 2016 as an Instructional Designer. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Gordon College and a Master of Science in Education: Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology from Nova Southeastern University.

Kathy’s passion for eLearning stems from her experience as a high school ESOL teacher. She believes that eLearning provides vast educational opportunities for students of every age and circumstance, and she is excited to be on the cutting edge of this field.

Mary Rotundo

Instructional Designer

Mary Rotundo joined FAU’s Center for eLearning in November 2015 as an Instructional Designer, Educational/Training Programs Coordinator. Mary holds a Master of Arts degree in Online Education from Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia (UNAD) Colombia and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Modern Languages from Universidad Metropolitana in Caracas, Venezuela.

Before joining FAU, Mary was an English as a Second Language instructor for more than 15 years. She co-wrote the Online English as a Second Language Program for UNAD Colombia. Mary has also been learning manager and instructional designer for several private firms, where she coordinated the design of learning solutions as well as the deployment of communication and follow-up strategies.

Mary is a born educator. She believes that being an instructional designer is being an educator all over again.

Silvana Schwan

Silvana Schwan joined the Center for E-Learning at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) as Instructional Designer in August 2015. Silvana holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Communications with a minor in Journalism, has a Web Design and Interactive Media certification from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, and a Master’s Science Degree in Instructional, Curriculum and Technology from Nova Southeastern University. Silvana had worked for The Discovery Channel for 12 years responsible for Brazil, Spain, and Portugal media-program management markets, leaving the Cable Broadcast Television industry to pursue a second career in Education. Previously, Silvana contributed as an Instructional Designer at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), and Keiser University (KU).

Silvana’s passions are in Education, Media, Technology and Volunteering Work. Silvana believes in the power of knowledge and education, and takes professional gratification in designing courses to attending all learners-learning styles.

Dr. Judy Somers

Dr. Judy Somers, Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Florida Atlantic University.

Judy’s educational/research interests are in the areas of brain-based learning, metacognition, visual literacy, emotional intelligence, and the learning process. She likes to encourage others to “Think Outside the Box.”

Judy teaches as an adjunct for the College of Education at FAU, having taught several Masters and Doctoral level courses as well as Introduction to the Teaching Profession; an undergraduate survey course for preservice teachers. Judy has presented at several Florida and National conferences.

Outside the University setting, Judy has an interest in Nature Photography. She has had some articles and photographs published in Nature Photographer magazine. She also enjoys the culinary arts and was a local caterer for several years. Judy likes traveling, working in the garden and various crafting hobbies. As well as anything DISNEY!

Yara Rodriguez serves as the Project Coordinator for the Center for eLearning and joined the team in May 2017. She has been in Information Technology service management since graduating from FAU with a Bachelors of Business Administration and earned an ITIL certificate. While working as the help desk supervisor, she found her passion for project management. Which then led her to a private marketing company’s PM office and jumped at the opportunity to come back to her alma mater doing what she loves best.

Deny Chang is the Instructional Technology Specialist at the Center for eLearning where he supports and manages various projects, events and productions. Deny holds a Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies from FAU. Prior to returning to Florida Atlantic, Deny worked in the corporate and broadcast video production industry. He brings a decade of extensive and varied multimedia and production experience.

Nicole Alford joined the Center for eLearning in October 2017 as an Instructional Designer. Nicole holds degrees from Florida State University including a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with minors in Business and Child Development and her Masters in Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies with graduate certificates in Preparing Future Professionals, Online Instructional Development, and Human Performance Technology. Nicole is pursuing her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at Florida Atlantic University with concentrations in gamification, instructional design and global engagement. Nicole has experience working in higher education, presenting at state and national conferences, and developing online courses and modules. Nicole enjoys to workout at the FAU gym and participate in group fitness classes as well as spend time with family.

Dr. Joseph Dargue joined FAU’s Center for eLearning as an Instructional Designer in November 2017. Joseph holds a Ph.D. in English and Comparative Literature from the University of Cincinnati (2015), an M.A. in Literatures of Modernity from Royal Holloway, University of London (2008), and a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Lancaster University (2006). He is currently working on an M.Ed. in Instructional Technology at the University of Akron.

Amarae` has extensive experience with academic advising, student service management, recruitment, orientation and transfer services. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of the Virgin Islands as well as a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University.

Tanya Beniquez

Tanya Beniquez serves as a Digital Media Coordinator for the Center for eLearning at FAU. Tanya holds a Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies with a concentration in Film and Video from FAU, as well as minors in Communications studies and in Italian language. Prior to her work at FAU, she gained professional experience in broadcast television, from Pre-Production as an Assistant Producer to Post-Production as a Deliverables Coordinator for a national news network. Tanya loves to be outdoors, riding her bike and rollerblading. She also loves hosting parties, pondering, analyzing films/TV shows, traveling and spending quality time with loved ones. Tanya speaks English, Spanish and some Italian.
