Engagement in courses is very important to online students. By ensuring engagement in the course, the students become connected to their fellow classmates and the instructor. Engagement is so important to students, they will rate the quality of the course based on their impression of the sense of community that was built into the courses and the interaction with the instructional content. Students are looking for ways to feel connected that go beyond answering questions in the discussion board. Planning group projects and authentic assessments are good tools for engaging students. Providing high-quality feedback in a timely manner allows the students to feel connected with the instructor in the course.
