The Higher Education Leadership Program is one of three program areas within the Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology at FAU. We offer a Master of Education and a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Leadership. The Higher Education Leadership Master’s Degree (M.Ed.) program is designed for individuals aspiring to, or currently holding, leadership positions in institutions of higher education.
The Higher Education Leadership Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) program provides individuals with opportunities to refine skills, initiate research, and approach challenges and opportunities to effectively lead at the executive level.


Course Requirements: School Leadership Master Degree
The following lists the coursework that you must take in order to meet the requirements for the School Leaders Masters Program Degree. The Florida Educational Leadership Exam (FELE) must be taken and passed before graduation.

Core Courses

    1. EDA 6103: Leadership III: Administrative Processes

Professional Knowledge

    1. EDH 6635: Organization and Administration of Higher Education
    1. EDH 6065: History and Philosophy of Higher Education
    1. EDH 6051: Introduction to the Study of Higher Education

Plus Three of:

    1. EDH 6045: Student Affairs Leadership
    1. EDH 6215: Community College Curriculum
    1. EDH 7505: Higher Education Business and Finance*
    1. EDH 7405: Legal Issues in Higher Education*
    1. EDH 6305: Improvement of Instruction in Colleges
    1. EDH 6931: Contemporary Issues in Student Affairs
    1. EDH 6040: Student Development Theory
    1. EDH 6058: International Comparative Higher Education
    1. *Doctoral classes – Master’s degree students must request permission to register
