What is your name and degree program?
My name is Susan Dennett. And I’ve been teaching at Florida Atlantic University for about three years now. And I teach in the Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology.
Could you share more details about the degree program?
It’s an online Masters in Educational Leadership. And it focuses on adults in Community Education. And what’s amazing about this one, it actually has another focus on sustainability. And so, we look at leaders and what leaders need to actually lead successfully now and into the future.
What advice do you have for future Owls considering online classes at FAU?
I would say really interact with your colleagues and your professor. The more students can interact and collaborate with each other, and learn from one another and the professor too, the more they get out of the course. So definitely reach out to colleagues.
What do you enjoy most about taking classes online?
I love teaching online. And what I love is to really try and interact with the students and really personalize content and delivery to the students, too.
For instance, I do a lot of personalized videos. So sometimes students might have said, oh, online, it’s flat. We’re just looking at a screen.
So, what I try and do is create personalized videos, so they can see me and they can hear me. And hopefully, they have that extra connection. I love trying to make that personalized touch happen in the online world.
