Faculty Support
The Center for eLearning offers a variety of options for supporting University faculty as they move into the online teaching environment. This graphic demonstrates the types of services provided by the Instructional Design Team at the CEL. See additional descriptions of the components below.

Programs
The eDesign Course Development program supports faculty members interested in working with an instructional designer (ID) to develop an online course. In this program, faculty members serve as subject matter experts (SME). The SME’s role is to meet with an instructional designer on a weekly basis to provide content knowledge, course materials, lecture notes, and other course-related resources. By not providing these materials the process is considered a drop-off and is not eligible for compensation.
The eProgram Migration service provides assistance with converting present degree programs into partial or fully online and the development of new online degree options.
Through the Education Advisory Board, the Center can assist with feasibility studies and marketing for online programs. The relevant courses needed can be designed using either the eDesign or eCertification services.

Services
The Center for eLearning provides a template for online courses. The FAU Online Template:
- Structures courses in an easy to navigate format that is consistent with other FAU online courses
- Provides information to students about student support services available online at FAU
- Encourages student engagement in an online community of learners
- Organizes each unit by making clear connections between the learning objectives, unit assessments, and instructional content
- Provides faculty with a research-based format for assuring a quality online course.
- Template Tour Video
- Center for eLearning Canvas Template Tour
University faculty are invited to set up appointments with one of the Instructional Design team to make revisions or adjustments in an existing online course. This might be something basic or may involve a more detailed revision, possibly even a full conversion into the CEL Online Template (see Template Conversion).
The Center for eLearning offers assistance in converting existing online courses into the FAU Online Template through the guidance of an Instructional Designer. Following best practices for quality courses, a course is re-designed using the CEL Online Template.
In addition to full course design services, the Center for eLearning supports faculty in their online courses through consultation appointments with instructional designers. Consultations are typically an hour long and cover a wide variety of faculty needs including, but not limited to, course facilitation questions, brainstorming assessment or communication strategies, smaller design revisions, general online course questions, and recommendations for course template conversions.
The Center for eLearning’s Open Lab is a great opportunity for University Faculty and staff to come in with any eLearning questions or concerns they may have. Our team of Instructional Designers are available to guide you through the process, and to assist with any issues with your online course. No appointment necessary!
The Center for eLearning hosts Open Lab, every Friday on the Boca Raton campus, and provides assistance to the Broward Campuses at our Davie Facility. Open Lab is also available on the Jupiter Campus on an appointment basis.
The 8 week eCertification workshop is for faculty members interested in learning the fundamentals of designing and facilitating an online course. Completers of the workshop earn an eLearning Designer/Facilitator certification. The workshop can be done fully online or hybrid and is self-paced though we do encourage people to try to set a time frame of 8 weeks. You will be supported by the Center for eLearning instructional design team as you move through the workshop.
