The Center for Online and Continuing Education, in collaboration with Dr. Papiya Bhattacharjee, has recently been recognized at the national level earning the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) 2020 Innovation Award for the creation of a free, interactive eText for MAC 2233, a high enrollment general education course. Adoption of the eText saves FAU students over $500,000 each year. The project introduced the use of interactive elements including simulations and embedded instructional clips using Lightboard technology. The eText was developed in collaboration with the FAU College of Science.
The MAC 2233 eText is one of many Open Education Resources (OER) being developed at the Center of Online and Continuing Education. Another recent project includes an OER eText for a general education biology lecture and lab manual that will save each student in this high enrollment course hundreds of dollars.
FAU Center for Online and Continuing Education Executive Director, Dr. Julie Golden Botti, remarked that she was thrilled that her team and Dr. Bhattacharjee have been recognized nationally. “This is such a wonderful acknowledgement of our strong commitment to making higher education more affordable and inclusive to students at FAU.”
